Blue Light Glasses: Do You Really Need Them?
Long hours on screens in the UAE? What blue-light-filter lenses can and cannot do, and simple habits that protect your eyes.
Between work laptops, phones and evening streaming, most of us spend more than eight hours a day looking at screens. That is why blue light glasses are one of the most common questions we get in store.
What blue light filter lenses do
Blue-filter lenses reduce part of the high-energy visible light from screens and LED lighting. Many people find they reduce glare and make screens feel more comfortable, especially in the evening.
What they don't do
Digital eye strain mostly comes from how we use screens: staring without blinking, poor distance, and uncorrected vision. A blue-filter coating helps with comfort, but it is not a cure. Often the biggest improvement is simply wearing the correct prescription.
Healthy screen habits
- Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
- Keep your screen about an arm's length away and slightly below eye level.
- Match screen brightness to the room.
- Blink more often, and use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry in air-conditioning.
